Hey how are you all doing?

I’m on holiday for a few days but today, I thought I’d trim the rather overgrown bush! 😂

I call this ‘personal admin’. Stuff that needs doing. Stuff that you might not like doing, but which cecimes more of a chore the longer you leave it.

Now’s a good time to consider doing your financial ‘personal admin’ as we head to the end of the financial year.

Get all your paperwork up to date if you’re self-employed or if you need to complete a tax return for any other reason.

Sort out all your mortgage statements - do you need to start thinking about a re-mortgage?

Do you have any spare cash that’s not needed to be instantly accessible as an emergency fund but which isn’t currently working hard for you?

Maybe you’re about to receive a dividend and haven’t yet considered what to do with it.

You could invest it into an ISA, your pension or perhaps you could consider an offset mortgage* to give you the meat of both worlds?

Whatever it is you need to do, think about it.

Then do it.

And then you’ll feel so much better and can relax knowing you’ve done it.

*an offset mortgage allows you to utilise your savings to save interest on your mortgage, without having to use the savings to pay off the capital.

What is the difference between a re-mortgage and a

What is the difference between a re-mortgage and a rate switch/product transfer?

If your mortgage is in a fixed term, you will revert to your current lender's standard variable rate of interest at the end of the fixed term unless you make arrangements to do something else.

If your mortgage is NOT currently in a fixed term, you're likely EITHER to be on your lender's standard variable rate of interest OR you are on a tracker or discounted rate of interest.

When you're not in a fixed term, you can (usually) change your interest rate without incurring an early repayment penalty.

You have 2 options:

1: You can stay with the same lender as you're already with, and swap the interest rate to a new one (either fixed, or tracker - whatever they have available). This is called a product transfer or rate switch.

2: You can check rates with other lenders and if you feel there is a more suitble rate available to you with another lender, you can re-mortgage to the new lender. This will mean redeeming your existing mortgage and starting a new mortgage with a different lender.

You can consider either or both of the above options at any time, although you may incur early repayment penalties. Your mortgage advisor will be able to help you with this.
